Polyphonic Ancestral Disco
A polyphonic vocal concert oscillating between screams, harmonies, and non-metric grooves. Rooted in traditional Eastern European wedding songs and disco polo (so called urban folk), it reclaims music shaped by patriarchal structures to explore and transform collective female identity. This is a form of ancestral feminism—where matrilineal knowledge and rural traditions are reactivated as tools for empowerment. These songs, once means for survival and expression, become portals to shared subconsciousness—embracing shame, transforming trauma, and imagining new forms of collective presence. The performance blends embodied voice work, rural polyphony, and breath as medium, inviting listeners into a sonic landscape of care, defiance, and interdependence—where many voices coexist, echoing across borders and time.
The performance took place at the opening of Tanznacht Berlin, Vocal Affairs, in 2025 in Berlin.
